Ahh… It is great to be back at writing (and reading). I don’t have a lot of time, but I will try to get on here as many times as I can. Into The Still Blue is the third book in Under the Never Sky trilogy written by Veronica Rossi. (So excited that I got to meet her!) Before I get into the nitty-gritty of the novel here is background provided by Goodreads: The race to the Still Blue has reached a stalemate. Aria and Perry are determined to find this last safe haven from the Aether storms before Sable and Hess do–and they are just as determined to stay together.
Within the confines of a cave they’re using as a makeshift refuge, they struggle to reconcile their people, Dwellers and Outsiders, who are united only in their hatred of their desperate situation. Meanwhile, time is running out to rescue Cinder, who was abducted by Hess and Sable for his unique abilities. Then Roar arrives in a grief-stricken fury, endangering all with his need for revenge.
Out of options, Perry and Aria assemble an unlikely team for an impossible rescue mission. Cinder isn’t just the key to unlocking the Still Blue and their only hope for survival–he’s also their friend. And in a dying world, the bonds between people are what matter most.
Since I have written about this series before (I think…) I am only going to provide a quick background on the characters and setting. There are two main characters: Aria and Perry. They are polar opposites. In this futuristic land there are people who live in pods with extreme advancements in technology, who are called the Dwellers and people who live in a rustic setting i.e. hunting and gathering, called the Outsiders. Both of these societies are trying to reach the still. Basically there land is falling to hell and they need to relocate in order to survive. I love the fact that this book focuses on opposites. Male and Female. City and Country. Outside and inside. Black and white. I find this idea fascinating because not many novels focus solely on this theme of contrasting opposites that was so uniquely written out. I also love the fact that these character have advance abilities. (I’m an X-Men fan!). Anything with powers is a definitely a must read. I also enjoyed stepping into both Perry and Aria’s mind to see how they think and view other things.
Normally in this section I would mention sex scenes but this novel doesn’t really have them. So I’m just going to move on to other things I enjoyed about this novel. I also enjoyed the closure of the series. It ended in such a way that there really can’t be a continuation novel, which I’m sort of glad and sad about. I’m sad because this novel was a great read, but I’m also glad because I feel that the novel went exactly as it was supposed to go. I didn’t particularly enjoy the ending because so much destruction happens, I really wanted some of my favorite support characters to survive (spoiler! Sorry!). I also wanted an epilogue that will completely close it off. I want a small explanation of what the characters’ lives ended up like.
Overall, I give this novel 4.5 out 5. I really enjoyed it and will read this series again. I love reading about the dystopia and contrasts. This is a great novel to read if you have read the Hunger Games and enjoyed it. There along the same lines.
