This novel made me very sad. I did not want to see Morris’ girlfriend die, I really wished I could have skipped this one, but I knew I couldn’t do that. So of course Eve is determined to find the cop killer and bring them to justice. Here is the background on the novel provided by Goodreads: A Amarylis Coltraine may have recently transferred to the New York City police force from Atlanta, but she’s been a cop long enough to know how to defend herself against an assailant. When she’s taken down just steps away from her apartment, killed with her own weapon, for Eve the victim isn’t just “one of us.”
Dallas’s friend Chief Medical Examiner Morris and Coltraine had started a serious relationship, and from all accounts the two were headed for a happy future together. But someone has put an end to all that. After breaking the news to Morris, Eve starts questioning everyone from Coltraine’s squad, informants, and neighbors, while Eve’s husband, Roarke, digs into computer data on Coltraine’s life back in Atlanta. To their shock, they discover a connection between this case and their own painful, shadowy pasts.

I Loved, Loved, Loved this novel. I thought the storyline was great! I was a little worried at first when I found out that the victim was Morris’ girlfriend, but I thought the story had an interesting twist. I was really excited to see how this one progressed. Eve was very not her normal self. I thought that it was great to see Eve not quite at her top A game. The inclusion of the other characters is always what I love about series. I have to admit this was a joy to read and really made me laugh at the best times. Here’s a small hit: Bridal Shower. Okay, if you read the series then you know what I meant by that, if not they read this novel!
As for the sex, two words: Steamy and blood heating. The way J.D. Robb writes her love scenes are great because it’s not just about the sex. Yes, the sex is great, but the emotional connection between the characters is what makes it great. Roarke and Eve’s relationship has to be one of my personal favorites of all time. They really understand each other now, but watching them fumble along was great to see. If you read this novel, remember to have a fan near by and a glass of water. (You’ll need it).
Overall, I give this novel 5 out 5 Kittens. Cause who would want kittens? If you like this series great! If not, don’t worry there are other books out there and especially the huge stack on my dresser that I need to get through. Happy New Years Everyone, and I hope everyone had a wonder holiday.
