Imitation in Death (In Death #17)

Well, I regret to inform all that I have officially started school. I will no longer have much time for pleasure reading as my teacher wish for me to read articles that do not care for. Well that is what school is about sometimes. Reading things you really don’t want to. Now on to my passion, my joy in life. Imitation in Death is book 17 in the In Death series. 17? That’s amazing! I can safely say that this series has only gotten better.

Here is a brief back ground on the novel: Summer, 2059. A man wearing a cape and a top hat approaches a prostitute on a dark, New York City street. Minutes later, the woman is dead. Left at the scene is a letter addressed to Lieutenant Eve Dallas, inviting her to play his game and unveil his identity. He signs it, “Jack.” Now Dallas is in pursuit of a murderer who knows as much about the history of serial killers as she does. He has studied the most notorious and the most vicious slayings in modern times. But he also wants to make his own mark. He has chosen his victim: Eve Dallas. And all Eve knows is that he plans to mimic the most infamous murderers of all starting with Jack the Ripper…

This was an interesting novel simple because it is a killer that imitates series killers. I thought that was very realistic and ingenious. I admit (secretly) that I am fascinated with the minds of killers: How they think, how they act, what their childhood was like. I get a perverse enjoyment of reading their life stories, which is why I found this novel so intriguing.  Eve Dallas is simply a phenomenal character that grows with each novel, especially as pieces of her past are starting to come into the light. Out of all the suspects I can safely say I was hoping all of them were guilty, but there can only be one murderer in this novel. I liked how the novel kept me guessing through the whole plot. McNab and Peabody’s relationship continues to thrill and fascinate me. I enjoy seeing them becoming more committed to each other as their relationship progresses. I look forward to seeing what comes next in their relationship.

As for Eve and Roarke, I simple fall more in love with Roarke the more I read about him. He is a great counterpart to Eve, who is the strongest in this series (well… Duh…. it’s about her). Roarke knows exactly what to say and when to say it, yet I still enjoy seeing Roarke lose his cool and flounder like the rest of us mere mortals. So far it is grill :1 and Roarke: 0. And when you read this novel you will see what I mean. As for the sex scenes, or Ahem the steamy, erotic scenes, as usual J.D. Robb writes great sex scenes that are full of emotion as well as descriptive sex. It is never sex for the sake of sex, but a connection between the characters that further their bond with each other. And i do have to say that in this novel Roarke and Eve have their best sex so far! Be prepared for to fan yourself as the temperature rises while reading their love scenes. *Wink*

Overall, I give this novel 5 out of 5 stars. I simply enjoyed this novel all around. There was nothing that I did not particularly enjoy. So you know this is where I normally insert novels that you will like if you enjoyed this one, but frankly I did that for the other 16, I think you get the gist now. So I will tell you to look forward to my next review, they will be coming sporadically since school started. Happy readings to all!
