Light My Fire (Dragon Kin #7)

Light-My-Fire

Okay, So I know I am not the best at writing reviews. The only time I have to do this is when I’m on break from teaching freshmen and sophomores in high school. Not much time to read or write to be honest. But in reality this is for me. Light My Fire by G. A. Aiken is the 7th book in the dragon series. Here isĀ  a brief background provided by Goodreads:

The trouble with humans is that they’re far too sensitive. Forget you put a woman in the local jail for a few months – and she takes it so personally! And yet she is the one trying to assassinate the queen. And now I’m trapped with Elina Shestakova of the Black Bear Riders of the Midnight… gods! That endless name!

But what am I to do? I am Celyn the Charming with direct orders from my queen to protect this unforgiving female.

Even more shocking, this unforgiving female is completely unimpressed by me. How is that even possible? But I know what I want and, for the moment, I want her. And I’m sure that she, like all females, will learn to adore me. How could she not when I am just so damn charming?

This was an interesting novel, however, it was not up to G. A. Aiken’s usual standards. I thought this books was going in too many different directions. The story first starts off with Celyn and the female lead. Then is separates to what the other characters are doing. I do like knowing how the previous characters are doing in their life now, but I felt that they overrun the entire story. It was less about how Celyn finds his mate and more about the coming war with the twins and Rhi. It was great to see the twins again and to see how they have grown as characters. I just wished it could be more about Celyn and less random get together. The book was about 478 pages and yet the story about Celyn was less than half of that. I did not enjoy that. I still love her writing and love the comedic moments in storyline.

As for the sex scenes, they were okay. I did not sense a connection as the other stories had. It seemed a bit forced, like they were just going through the motions but not really falling for each other. I still cannot understand how they got together in the first place. I understand how they could have sex, I mean when a woman says let’s fuck, most men do not look the other way. They jump right on it. Celyn is not different. He is very attentive but she was such an odd character. An odd female lead. She was horrible to Celyn, though he does deserve it sometimes just not all the time.

Overall, I give this novel 3 out 5. I am looking forward to where this storyline is going, because I feel that it is reaching its end. It was the same with her other series with the shifters. After a while the storyline dries up. I am looking forward to her newest series about the crows. Should be interesting. Happy Readings!
