Hard Knocks (Ultimate series 0.5)

This is the start of the newest series by Lori Foster. This was a great introduction into the new world of MMA fighters. AS some of you might know Lori Foster wrote another MMA fighter series starting with the novel Causing Havoc. I reviewed that one on this blog as well. Feel free to check it out. This one has characters from the other MMA series as well as the Love Undercover series. I love it when old characters make an appearance. Here is a brief background on this novella provided Goodreads: Power. Brute strength. Unforgettable moves. It’s no wonder Harper Gates hasn’t been able to get her fling with Gage “Savage” Ringer out of her head. Months have passed since she laid eyes—or any other body parts—on him. Months without a word of contact… until, sidelined by injury, he comes back to town.

Staying focused on his training seemed like a smart move to Gage, even if he thought about Harper every day. Seeing her again only makes it clear how much is at stake. He’s got one night to earn back her trust. One night to show her that behind his breathtaking skill and ripped body is a man who’ll give her everything she needs.

I thought this was a great introduction into the fighting world of MMA. For those of you that don’t know what that stands for it means Mixed Martial Arts. Gage was an interesting character. This novella starts after the main male lead and the main female lead already started talking and growing their relationship. This book was about how they crossed that last border as well as how they make the relationship work with his crazy life. I thought it was super cute how they got together as well as their conflict. I refuse to say what it is. You will just have to read it to find out. Suffice it say it was very realistic and adorable. I also love the interaction from the other characters that we will get to see later in the series.

AS for the sex, I thought where it was located in the book made perfect sense. It was not within the first five minutes. I really hate it when author do that. It was built over time through out their interactions with each other. I also felt that the foreplay was perfect. It really brought the book to life. It was a great build up. The explosive sex scene did not hurt either. Lori Foster truly understand how to write the perfect sex scene.

Overall, I give this novella 5 out 5. I really enjoyed it and cannot wait for Cannon’s story. I would love to see him fall, fumble and really become a chaotic mess in love. I hope you are all enjoying your last few weeks of summer. I know I am trying to. Writing lesson plans are harder than I thought. They are really time-consuming and a waste of time, however the PACT does not see it that way. Well, that was a weird tangent to go on. I just want to let you all know that I will be taking a hiatus for a while. I have too much on my plate this semester with finishing the credential program. Wish me all luck and keep reading those great romance novels. Also as a side note Ilona Andrews new book just came out. I do not have time to read it yet, but I will keep you all updated as the semester progresses.
