Kindred in Death (In Death # 29)

This novel was very hard for me to read because it involves a sex crime on a minor. This is not something that I can really handle reading. I am empathetic to the victims. But first, let me give you a brief background on this novel provided by Goodreads: When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they were looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter who had stayed behind.
Not even their worst nightmares could have prepared them for the crime scene that awaited them instead. Brutally murdered in her bedroom, Deena’s body showed signs of trauma that horrified even the toughest of cops; including our own Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who was specifically requested by the captain to investigate.
When the evidence starts to pile up, Dallas and her team think they are about to arrest their perpetrator; little do they know yet that someone has gone to great lengths to tease and taunt them by using a variety of identities. Overconfidence can lead to careless mistakes. But for Dallas, one mistake might be all she needs to bring justice.

I personally could never be a death cop like Eve Dallas because of all that they have to see. Although I have to admit that the descriptive language was very good to read. This storyline was great but hard to read. Mainly it was because of the gruesome-ness of the murders. I thought it was interesting with the evidence and the though process of Eve. It really shows how cops think and take steps to solve a murder. I really enjoyed seeing the dynamics of Peabody and McNab. Their relationship fascinates me to no end same as Louise and Charles. In this novel we get to see more of those characters because … wait for it… Louise and Charles are getting married. I love the fact that this event irks Eve. Best part of this book.

As for the sex scenes, I love the beginning that pretty much sums up Roarke and Eve’s relationship. It’s all hot, steamy and utter perfection. I love reading about their sex life, it is simply too fascinating not to read about. I am a little sad that the sex scenes have become a lot less than in the beginning of the series but I also love how their relationship progressed throughout the entire series.

Overall, I give this novel 4 .5 out of 5, simply because it was hard for me to read about the gruesome way the girl died. Other than that this novel was great. If you love this series (which is easy to do) keep reading. Just to let everyone else know I should be reviewing different books and posting new reviews in the next few days that are not from this series.
